Pansy Painting
Pansy Painting
3 3/8 in x 2 ½ in (without bow)
Small porcelain painting with a raised attached frame. This piece was carved, illustrated with a cut stencil, and finished with a hand-stitched velvet ribbon. Inspired by flowers, folk art, and Victorian area frames. Made with the same care as a traditional painting but with the technical know-how of clay.
I love Victorian botanical specimens with pressed flowers mounted on a stark black background, with their Latin names and descriptions. As a flower enthusiast and “green/ budding” flower farmer I keep a lookout for beautiful (to me) and unusual colors of flowers I love. I am so inspired by the varieties of pansies Three Brothers Blooms have been breeding and I had to get my hands on some seeds last fall. I keep rooting myself in time-based seasonal delights of flower gardening and produce. As a Pacific Northwest resident I am trying to find new ways to embrace the dark months but majorly anticipating the return of early spring flowers. It’s been so helpful and necessary for me to have a little creative reset in the studio post-holiday hustle and these mugs are the outcome.
